Compared with the separate panels, this is a wider set: according to the name it covers cockpit elements including the seat belts and the padding, all of it as full-color decals with a raised relief. The Chipmunk is a trainer with tandem seating, so there are two stations to work on and a matching number of belts. It is neither a kit nor a resin cockpit tub but an accessory to the parts from the box in 1:48 scale.
On a trainer the canopy tends to be glazed along its whole length and the inside is visible from both sides at once. At the same time it is a small aircraft, so the interior makes up a fairly large part of the finished model. A set that handles the panels and the belts together makes sense here above all because the whole cockpit comes out uniform in color: the printing comes from one sheet, so the shades match each other, which rarely works out when the parts are put together from different places.
Deal with the instrument panels first and only then the belts: a panel is harder to move around and it is good to have free access while you settle it. Sand all the surfaces smooth, spray them with a dark base and overcoat with gloss varnish. Settle the decals with plenty of water, align them and blot the water away. Apply the softener drop by drop and without running a brush over it, leaving the decal undisturbed for at least 45 minutes; with belts that have to pass over the edge of the cushion, repeat the dose once it has dried rather than forcing it. Matte varnish goes onto the whole interior at the end; only the instrument glazing is left out.
The box holds decals only. It does not include the kit, paints, varnish or decal softener.
