A printed sheet 225 x 225 mm showing the surface of RAF Wildenrath air base in West Germany as it was in 1967. It serves as a base under models in 1:144 scale. It is neither a kit nor a decal but a surface on which you stand a model.
Unlike bases with a long span of time, this one is tied to a single year. During a build that is both an advantage and an obligation: the motif matches the look of the area and its markings in that year exactly, but at the same time it advises that the machine standing on it should carry markings of the same period. Anyone building an aircraft ten years younger or older should expect the scene and the model to part company in time.
Permanent bases in continental Europe had a different character of surface from wartime improvisations. The paving was built systematically, the area divided into regular bays and the markings kept up. Wear therefore shows not as break-up but rather as markings worn away and darkening where machines taxi regularly. You can take that up when settling the model: restrained weathering on the underside of the fuselage looks more believable on such a surface than pronounced mud.
This is a printed base for a model. The model itself, glue and paints are not part of the delivery.
