A printed display base for models, 450 x 450 mm, with the motif of the main runway of RAF Scampton air base, prepared for 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The base carries a print of the main runway of RAF Scampton air base in the English county of Lincolnshire, in the form it had in the years 2000 to 2021. The print is deliberately softened, so in a photograph it reads as a background outside the plane of focus and the model stands forward in front of it.
The format is square, 450 millimeters across and 450 high, and it is prepared for models in 1:72 scale. A square has the practical advantage that it can be turned to find a better direction of light without the whole tableau having to be rearranged. The base will serve for the permanent display of a model on a shelf or in a case, and equally for photography, where it takes the place of an improvised background and unites a whole series of shots into one setting.
Keep it flat. A fold shows clearly on a large smooth surface and in a photograph comes out as a sharp crease that is hard to put right afterwards. Before photographing, brush the dust off it with a soft brush. Lighting from the side will bring out the shadows of the model and give the tableau depth, whereas light straight from above will flatten the surface. Rather lay the model on the base than stick it down; that way the base can still be used for other machines.
It will be appreciated by builders of aircraft in 1:72 scale who photograph or display their models and want to show them in the setting they belong to, without having to build a whole diorama.
The base is supplied on its own. The model, a display case and other accessories are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
