The German workshop Uschi van der Rosten devotes itself to printed textures, and this item deals with a detail that is hard to manage with a brush: a flat carpet with a regular pattern. Seven different larger carpets are available, and that with the texture of the reverse side too, so a bent corner or a folded-over edge looks convincing. The drawing of the pattern stays sharp even after application, because it carries a print resolution that hand painting cannot reach in this scale.
In the package there is a soft, thicker metal foil. The print is transferred onto it and the foil can then be shaped over stairs, thresholds or the edge of a step, where the film alone would not hold the shape. That is what sets the set apart from an ordinary decal: the result can be rippled and left in the position cloth really takes, including a lifted corner or an edge turned up by a boot.
They suit halls, command posts, large rooms and the civilian rooms that make up the background of figure scenes. Level the surface before applying and clear it of grease; once seated, a light press with a cotton swab helps. The factory gloss is taken off by a final dusting with a dust pigment, and the worn walking paths are brought out by a dark shade laid on with a dry brush.
