Accessory sets replace the features that are necessarily simplified in plastic: thin structures, gratings, railings, ladders, platforms and the fine fittings of the decks. It is precisely these parts that decide most of the final impression on a ship model, because in 1:350 scale a plastic railing is several times thicker than reality would allow. The real subject is a battleship of the Iowa class, that is a vessel with a massive superstructure, extensive decks and a great many small fittings, so there is a great deal of room here for refinement.
Work in small steps and finish one area before you start the next. Cut the fine parts off with a sharp knife on a hard surface rather than with scissors. They are glued with cyanoacrylate applied in the smallest amount, ideally with the tip of a wire; an excess of glue fills the detail and shows. Form the bent items in advance to match the plastic part they replace. The metal pieces are best degreased and sprayed with a primer, otherwise paint will not hold on them. Plan the procedure in advance, because once the fine parts are glued on you will struggle to reach the surrounding areas with either a brush or an airbrush.
