Metal parts of the 40 mm Rolls-Royce BD/BH anti-aircraft gun in 1:72 scale. An accessory for models of ships and their armament.
Responsibility details are not available.
The light anti-aircraft gun of forty millimeters caliber was the typical defense of vessels against aircraft attacking from low altitude. A caliber of forty millimeters represented a reasonable compromise: the shell had enough effect to bring an attacker down, while the weapon still managed to fire a burst before the target had passed over. The model of the gun with the designation BD/BH is made up of a slender barrel, a mounting and a gunner's seat, that is all thin sections, which injection-molded plastic in 1:72 scale can never manage without being thickened.
Metal parts of the gun in 1:72 scale. Metal holds its shape even at very thin sections, which would bow in plastic, and it will take finer profiles; that is why it is used on armament accessories wherever appearance matters more than strength. The extent of the set and the number of parts are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and sand the remains of the connecting tabs down with a fine-toothed file. The metal parts are glued with cyanoacrylate applied with a pin, and on joints that carry a load a two-part adhesive is safer. Wash and degrease the metal before painting and give it a coat of primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface and will rub off during handling. Finish and paint the gun assembly separately and fit it to the model last, so that the thin sections do not get bent.
The set suits modelers of ships and coastal hardware who want to replace the coarse armament from a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
