This accessory from Quickboost consists of a casting of the L-166 device, which carries the nickname Lipa, in 1:48 scale. It is fitted to models of the transport and combat versions of the Mil Mi-8MT and Mi-17 helicopter. The box holds the resin part itself; you need the helicopter kit separately.
The Lipa is an active means of defense against missiles with infrared seekers. The cylindrical body mounted above the rear fuselage radiates a modulated signal in the thermal band and so confuses the guidance system of a missile. In photographs of helicopters in combat service this feature is often one of the most conspicuous details of the whole tail, because its shape resembles nothing else on the airframe.
The Mi-8MT is a more capable development of the older Mi-8 with a pair of TV3-117 engines, the tail rotor moved to the other side and better performance at high altitude. The export designation of the same machine is Mi-17, and the type spread by the hundreds all over the world. Machines deployed in mountain and desert regions received defensive equipment most often.
