This is an accessory for a model of a British aircraft in 1:32 scale: a wicker seat with a perforated back, in two height versions, short and tall. Both have a small leather pad on the seat. The seat tends to be the first thing anyone notices in a cockpit, and a ready-made accessory saves the work of folding one up from flat parts. Where exactly the seat belongs and how it sits in the cockpit is shown by the instructions for the model you are building and by period photographs of the real subject.
Wicker seats were light and cheap and belong to the equipment of aircraft of older design; on British machines you will find them mainly on types from the First World War and from the years that followed. The perforated back is a typical feature: the weave is broken through so that the seat keeps its shape while weighing as little as possible. It is exactly that pattern that shows on a model and sets the seat apart from the smooth shell of later machines.
Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a short way from the part and sand the remainder carefully, so that the weave stays untouched. Wash and degrease the part before painting. Wicker comes out best if you lay down a light straw to ocher base and go over it with a darker glaze that runs into the woven areas; wipe the excess away and let the edges of the weave stand out. Set the leather pad apart with a darker brown shade with a slight sheen. Use super glue for bonding, as cement for polystyrene works only on polystyrene.
