About product

155 mm ammunition of the PGK series in 1:35 scale

This is an accessory for models, not a model of a weapon. The set represents 155 mm artillery shells in 1:35 scale and is intended to complete a model of a howitzer, an ammunition vehicle or a diorama with an artillery position. The word aluminum in the name refers to the projectile being made of metal - a metal part has a crisper shape as a body of revolution than plastic, it needs no filling of a parting line and it looks properly heavy when it lies loose in a scene.

The real subject

The 155 mm caliber is the standard artillery caliber of the NATO countries and is used by towed howitzers and self-propelled systems alike. The abbreviation PGK denotes a modern guidance kit which is fitted in place of the classic fuze in the nose of a shell and turns an ordinary projectile into a guided one; from the outside such a shell is recognized precisely by its different nose. For a modeler that means this ammunition belongs to contemporary equipment, not to scenes from the Second World War.

Usage and painting tips

First degrease the metal surface and apply a primer intended for metal, or the paint will not hold. If the set also holds plastic or resin parts, glue them with super glue. The color treatment of artillery ammunition follows the real subject and differs between periods, so keep to a photograph of the particular type you are building. At the end a light wash into the bores and engravings and fine rubbing with pigment have proved themselves - shells in a scene tend to be dusty and scuffed from handling, not fresh from the factory.

Who the set is for

  • For builders of models of modern 155 mm howitzers
  • For dioramas with an artillery position or an ammunition vehicle
  • For modelers who want metal detail instead of a plastic molding
  • For completing the interior of an ammunition compartment

The set is an accessory for a model, not a kit on its own. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No, it is a set of ammunition. It serves as an accessory for a model of a howitzer, a vehicle or for a diorama.

Go by the figure on the packaging.

Turned metal holds a precise body of revolution with no parting line and calls for no filling or sanding.

Degrease it, use a primer for metal and paint it from a photograph of the real subject. At the end a light wash and dust from pigments.
