LACI 1:144 Boeing 787 - landing flaps

A resin accessory set in 1:144 scale from LACI for a model of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. It makes it possible to build the aircraft with the high-lift devices extended, that is in the form it takes on approach to landing. It is not a kit of an airplane - the parts replace the corresponding sections of the wing of a plastic model you already have under way.

Why a model with the devices extended

The Dreamliner has a slender composite wing with marked flex, which is one of its identifying marks. It is exactly on it that the contrast between a clean cruise configuration and the devices extended shows well: the flaps reveal the slots, lengthen the chord of the wing and give a model movement that cannot be built out of the box. In 1:144 scale the flaps are so thin that cutting them from plastic is practically impossible - the point of the set rests on the fineness of the resin casting, which manages even edges a few tenths of a millimeter thick.

Usage tips

• Wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, which takes off residue of mold release agent. Otherwise paint will not hold.
• Cut the casting blocks off with a saw rather than breaking them; sand wet and with breathing protection.
• Cut away the corresponding section of the kit wing and level the mating surface on abrasive paper laid on glass.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate glue; the gel version gives time to match the angle of extension on the two wing halves against each other.
• Fill the joint and go over the whole area with filler primer before spraying, so that the transition is invisible.
