A finished collector's model in 1:200 scale: a section of the flight deck of the aircraft carrier CVN-65 and, with it, the carrier fighter aircraft F-14A in the markings of the test squadron VX-4.
Responsibility details are not available.
CVN-65 is the hull designation of the American aircraft carrier Enterprise. It was the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and spent over fifty years in service. Its flight deck is the area on which everything essential took place: takeoffs, landings, refueling and the moving of aircraft between stations. It is precisely that deck that is the subject of this set, completed with one F-14 Tomcat aircraft.
A finished collector's model, which is neither built nor glued. It contains one section of the flight deck, listed as section G, and an F-14A aircraft in the markings of the VX-4 squadron. The VX-4 designation was carried by an American naval test squadron, which put new machines through trial operations, so its aircraft tended to have more striking colors than frontline units. The manufacturer makes twelve deck sections, from A to L.
A closed display case suits the model, because the small parts of the aircraft are hard to dust. If you do not have one, wipe the deck with a soft brush and keep away from the aircraft; a cloth easily catches on the antennas, the probe or the landing gear. The section has a flat underside, so it will stand even on a shelf. Handle it by the edge of the deck and never by the aircraft.
For a collector who is fond of carrier aviation and will appreciate that the aircraft stands on a piece of a real deck rather than on a neutral stand. It also suits well as the start of a collection, to which further sections can be added gradually. A display case and further deck sections are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
