A plastic kit of the Honda Monkey 125 mini motorcycle in 1:12 scale from the motorcycle range of the Japanese firm Tamiya. The model is made up of injected plastic parts and is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The 1:12 scale has long been the standard with motorcycles: it allows the engine, the frame and the small controls to be worked out to a form you will not get in smaller scales, while the finished model stays reasonably sized for a display case.
Honda introduced the Monkey 125 in 2018 as a modern continuation of the miniature Monkey Z50 of the 1960s. It is powered by an air-cooled single-cylinder engine of 125 cubic centimeters, which comes from the same engine basis as the urban Grom model. Characteristic are the wide balloon tires, the high-routed exhaust, the round headlamp and the single seat. The combination of a short wheelbase, an upright riding position and retro styling made the Monkey a cult machine that is bought for pleasure rather than for range.
Proceed from the engine and the frame, as both are more easily painted at the stage when they are still accessible from all sides. Spray the body parts onto a perfectly smooth base and draw the gloss out with a clear coat followed by polishing, or on a small area the paint will look coarse. Do not degrease polished and chrome-plated parts with aggressive cleaners and handle them in gloves. Settle the decals on a gloss surface and secure them with a softener, so that they seat into the pressings of the tank and the fenders. Small cables and control lines can be added with thin wire, and on a motorcycle that tells on the result at once.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
