About product

Suzuki RG400 Gamma, early version 1985, 1:12 (Hasegawa)

A plastic kit of the Suzuki RG400 Gamma road sports motorcycle in 1:12 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The boxing corresponds to the early version of 1985, that is the first form of the model. The 1:12 scale is the standard for motorcycles and gives room for a faithful treatment of the frame, the engine and the exhaust system. The particular contents of the package and the number of parts are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

The real subject

The RG400 Gamma was a road motorcycle derived from a racing concept: a liquid-cooled two-stroke square-four engine, a light aluminum frame and a full fairing that followed the brand's circuit racers of the time both visually and technically. The model was intended above all for the Japanese home market, where it fitted the local capacity class, and its larger sibling of about five hundred cubic centimeters reached other markets as well. A characteristic feature is the set of four exhaust systems routed along both sides of the machine and the high-mounted end cans.

Building and painting tips

A motorcycle in 1:12 is, of all modeling subjects, the one most about the order of the steps. Finish the engine and the frame first, because once the fairing is hung on them you will no longer reach them. Paint the fairing separately and by the same procedure as a car body: filler, thin coats of color, thorough drying, decals and only then gloss clear. Do not wash the chromed and polished parts in thinner and glue them with gel cyanoacrylate glue. Brake lines and cables can be suggested with fine wire or heat-shrink tubing, which lifts the model a great deal. Leave the tires matte and weather them lightly with dust pigment around the circumference.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Japanese motorcycles of the 1980s in 1:12 scale
  • Modelers who want to work the engine, the frame and the cable routing up in detail
  • Anyone interested in two-stroke road machines derived from racing hardware
  • Builders of cabinet collections of motorcycles

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
