This figure from the Rado Miniatures range portrays a German paratrooper of the 1st Parachute Division as the gunner of an MG 42 in the setting of the Italian front of 1943 to 1945. Scale 1:35 is the most widespread scale for military equipment, so you can stand the figure beside models of tanks, guns and vehicles in the same scale without any recalculation. It is not a vehicle kit but a single figure meant to complete a scene.
The MG 42 was a German general-purpose machine gun of the Second World War. Technically it is marked by a high rate of fire, a quick barrel change and belt feed for the ammunition. Units of the 1st Parachute Division were deployed in 1944 in the area of Monte Cassino, where the fighting took place in mountainous terrain and in the ruins of buildings. For a modeler it is a rewarding setting for a diorama: stone rubble, broken masonry and a dusty surface.
Before gluing, try the parts together dry and clean up the mold seams and sprue gate remains with a fine file, a scalpel and a sanding sponge. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts: on resin castings super glue works well, on injection-molded plastic a thin plastic cement. Before painting, apply a thin base coat, which unifies the surface and reveals any scratches. Paint the face and hands first, and only then the uniform and the equipment. Bring out the weapon with dark steel shades and a fine dry brush; for the uniform, oil paints or acrylics applied in layers work well. Finally, seat the figure firmly on a base or in a diorama.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
