Aero C-104 in 1:72 scale from the Czech brand MGD models: a kit of the Czechoslovak training biplane, the license-built version of the German Bücker Bü 131 Jungmann on which Czechoslovak pilots trained after the war.
Responsibility details are not available.
A kit of the Czechoslovak Aero C-104 training biplane in 1:72 scale from the small Czech brand MGD models. An older kit from the 1990s and a home subject that the large manufacturers hardly cover, which is exactly why it is interesting to Czech modelers. The manufacturer does not publish the detailed contents of the package or the number of parts for this kit; expect the build to call for more patience, cleaning up and dry-fitting than a kit from a large brand.
The Aero C-104 was a two-seat training biplane, the Czechoslovak continuation of the development of the German Bücker Bü 131 Jungmann, whose production the German administration set up at the Aero works in Prague during the occupation. After the war production continued: the C-4 series was followed by the C-104 variant with the domestic Walter Minor 4-III engine of 105 hp (77 kW). By 1949, 260 of them had been built. They served for basic pilot training, equipped the military air academy as well, and from 1947 passed into civilian use. In the 1950s the army withdrew them and the machines flew out their lives in flying clubs; the last ended service in 1964. For a whole generation of Czechoslovak pilots it was the first aircraft they ever took off in.
The main challenge is the rigging, the bracing wires between the wings and the struts: stretch them from drawn sprue, fine monofilament or elastic thread and glue them with super glue only after painting. Seating the upper wing and the struts symmetrically is the second key point: build a simple jig from cardboard so that the wing sits level and at the right angle, and let the glue dry in it. The fuselage and wings were fabric covered, so suggest the fine show-through of the ribs discreetly; fabric is not corrugated sheet. The propeller was wooden: a light base and a layered grain built up with oil paints or a glaze. The cockpit is open, so the interior is visible and it pays to do it carefully. A primer before painting, thin cement on the plastic, super glue on the small accessories.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
