A separate decal sheet lets you build an aircraft with markings other than those the kit offers. You will also reach for one when the decals from the original package have yellowed with age, cracked or fallen apart while being soaked. Which options and color schemes this sheet covers is given in the instructions that belong with it.
In this scale the model is small and the markings on it make up a substantial part of the final impression, because the surface detail is necessarily fine. The individual decals are tiny, so handle them with smooth-tipped tweezers and do not touch a wet decal with your fingers; grease from the skin will show under it as a stain. It pays to work over a light-colored surface on which you will see a small decal if it slides away.
Overcoat the area under the decal with gloss varnish; on a matte surface air is trapped and the edges show as a haze. Cut the decal out with a small margin, immerse it briefly in lukewarm water and let it stand until it starts to move on the paper. Then slide it into place, bring it to position and blot the surplus water away with a soft cloth from the center toward the edges. On a broken-up surface a decal softener will help. Once dry, overcoat the model and unify the sheen of the whole area.
