A set for building a model of the Australian Boomerang CA-13 fighter in 1:144 scale. Printed parts are complemented by photo-etched elements and decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Boomerang was the first fighter designed and built in Australia. It was created under pressure in 1942, when the country needed a machine of its own quickly, so the designers started from an already established trainer type and its production base. It was a single-seat low-wing monoplane with a radial piston engine, stocky in appearance and easy to handle at low altitude. In air combat it was no match for the performance of Japanese fighters, but it proved itself over the jungle in support of ground troops and in directing attacks. The CA-13 designation belongs to one of the later production batches.
The basis is formed by parts made by 3D printing. Photo-etched elements go with them, that is thin metal parts meant to be bent, and decals for the markings. In 1:144 scale the finished model comes out small, which makes careful preparation of the parts show all the more.
First remove the remains of the print supports from the printed parts: cut them off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest carefully. Bend the photo-etched elements over the edge of a steel ruler or in a bending tool and bond them with super glue, as plastic cement does not hold on metal. Apply the decals only onto gloss varnish; after soaking in lukewarm water slide them into place and blot up the excess water. Wash and degrease all the parts before painting.
The set is for modelers experienced in fine work who want to add a less common type to their collection. Paints, glue and a display stand are not included, unless stated otherwise.
