A small kit of an armored vehicle in 1:144 scale from the Czech manufacturer Brengun. The models of this range are cast in resin and, in some cases, completed with photo-etched parts, so this is work for more experienced modelers; the procedure differs from that of an ordinary injection-molded kit. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The BRDM-2 is a Soviet amphibious armored reconnaissance vehicle with drive to all four wheels, taken into service in the 1960s. Its closed hull with a markedly sloped nose carries a small turret with a heavy machine gun and a coaxial one. Between the axles the vehicle has two pairs of auxiliary retractable wheels, which are lowered when driving across country and improve its ability to get over ditches. In the water the vehicle moved by means of a water jet at the rear. The design proved exceptionally long-lived: the BRDM-2 became the basis of a whole range of derived specials and served for decades in various forms with a great many armies.
Wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent first; remains of the mold release agent cling to the surface, and under them neither paint nor glue will hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and do not break them. Sand wet and with respiratory protection, because resin dust is fine. It is glued with cyanoacrylate, with an activator if you like; plastic cement does not work on resin. Apply a primer before painting, otherwise the paint holds poorly on a smooth casting. In 1:144 scale choose a fine weathering; a heavy wash and coarse pigments visually overwhelm the model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a resin kit. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
