This kit in 1:144 scale covers the twin-engine Bristol Beaufighter heavy fighter aircraft in the Mk.VI version, in the night fighter form as well as the coastal variant. The 1:144 scale means a genuinely small model: the finished piece takes up a minimum of room in a cabinet and fits easily beside larger kits, but at the same time the parts are fine and tiny, so it pays to work with a sharp knife, tweezers and in good light.
The Bristol Beaufighter was a twin-engine two-seat aircraft with a massive nose, a rugged structure and heavy gun armament. It was used as a night fighter fitted with airborne radar and at the same time as a heavy strike machine of RAF Coastal Command against shipping. The Mk.VI version was among the most widespread and differed in its engines and equipment according to the particular task; the night fighter form carried radar in the nose, while the coastal machines concentrated on attacks over the sea.
In 1:144 cleanliness decides everything: cut the parts away with a sharp knife rather than nippers, and fine paper is enough for sanding. The glazing is small and can be masked with liquid mask or with narrow strips of tape. Spray the paints with an airbrush, heavily thinned and in thin coats, otherwise you will clog the fine engraving. Apply the decals onto gloss varnish and press them down with softener, as in this scale they are tiny and easily damaged. Keep the weathering restrained, as an overdone wash optically dirties a small model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
