A resin dorsal spine for a two-seat F-16 model in 1:144 scale — in the Greek version. It is an accessory to the two-seat Trumpeter kit, not a model of the aircraft.

This item is a resin accessory, not a kit. On the two-seat F-16 kit from Trumpeter in 1:144 scale it replaces the upper part of the spine behind the cockpit with the characteristic lengthened fairing. The same part is also made in a Polish version; this one is the Greek version, and belonging to the version concerned is the only thing in which the two sets differ.
Two-seat F-16Ds of the later production blocks were given a lengthened dorsal fairing above the fuselage behind the cockpit, into which some of the equipment that would no longer fit anywhere else in the airframe was moved. This spine markedly changes the silhouette of the aircraft seen from the side and is the most conspicuous external difference between the early and the late two-seat version. The Hellenic Air Force operates such machines, and their models cannot be built without reworking the spine — ordinary kits do not hold one.
Before gluing, wash the part in warm water with detergent to take the release agent from the mold off. Cut the casting block off with a saw and sand the mating surface flat — with a part that seats on the spine of the fuselage, it is exactly the accuracy of the mating surface that decides. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Fill the seam at the join to the fuselage with filler and sand it over wet, so that the join cannot be seen once the paint is on. Only then lay the base and the covering color on; the spine is painted together with the fuselage, so that the shade matches.
This is an accessory for a kit, not a model on its own. The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted; paints, glue and the base kit are not included in the package.
