What the sheet carries

The sheet holds the roundels of the Italian Air Force for models in 1:144 scale and, according to the name, is made up of two identical sets, so it will do for a pair of models or leave a reserve in case one piece is damaged during application. The sizes are given in the dimensions of the real aircraft, that is in millimeters on the original.

The diameters offered

On the sheet there are roundels of 300, 500, 600, 800, 900, 1000 and 1200 mm in reality. Converted into 1:144 scale that corresponds roughly to these sizes on the model:

• 300 mm is about 2.1 mm
• 500 mm is about 3.5 mm
• 600 mm is about 4.2 mm
• 800 mm is about 5.6 mm
• 900 mm is about 6.3 mm
• 1000 mm is about 6.9 mm
• 1200 mm is about 8.3 mm

How to apply the decals

Before you soak the sheet, check in the instructions whether it is not a self-adhesive version; a soaked self-adhesive film is ruined beyond recovery, whereas a waterslide decal can be soaked at any time later. On an ordinary waterslide decal, cut the element out close to the edge, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it stand until the film can be moved off the paper. Spray the surface with a gloss varnish in advance, as on a matte area the decal would go white. Move the element into place, draw the excess water off and press it down with a soft cloth. The smallest roundels are at the limit of what can be handled, so work with tweezers with smooth points.
