A single-sided painting mask for the N1K2-J Shiden Kai in 1:32 scale by Art Scale. Cut self-adhesive masks for the canopy glazing of the Japanese fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
Pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the canopy glazing of a model of the Japanese fighter aircraft in 1:32 scale. The set serves to make the frames of the canopy come out sharp and of even width; by itself it is neither a kit nor a part of a model. The single-sided form masks the outer surface of the glazing, while the double-sided variant of the same type also covers the inner one. The set is cut for the particular Hasegawa kit.
The N1K2-J Shiden Kai was a land-based fighter aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service of Kawanishi design. Compared with the older version it had a reworked fuselage and a low-set wing, and it was powered by a Nakajima Homare radial engine. The canopy has a fairly long sliding cover with several frames, so masking takes a good deal of time and a pre-cut set shortens it noticeably.
The most common mistake comes not when sticking them on but when taking them off. Remove the masks as soon as the paint is dry to the touch and holds, but is not yet fully cured: after several days the finish joins across the edge of the mask and may peel off when it is pulled away. Lift the edge with the tip of a scalpel or a toothpick and pull the mask slowly back over itself at a sharp angle, not straight up. If the paint nevertheless stays hanging on the edge, run a fresh blade along it carefully, so that the edge separates cleanly.
