A vacuum-formed canopy for the J2M3 Raiden model in 1:144 scale is a replacement clear part, not a kit. Thin clear film drawn over a mold gives the cockpit cleaner glazing than injected plastic can offer.

This accessory from the Czech maker Brengun replaces the clear cockpit part on a model of the Japanese J2M3 Raiden fighter. It is not a model, and it is not a bonus part thrown in: it is a separate replacement part for the Fujimi kit. A vacuum-formed canopy is made by stretching heated clear film over a form; the result is considerably thinner and optically cleaner than a part injected into a mold.
An injected clear part has to keep a certain wall thickness, or it would not flow into the mold. That thickness shows in 1:144 scale: the glazing looks like the bottom of a bottle and the frames are overgrown. Vacuum-drawn film has a wall in tenths of a millimeter, so you can see into the cockpit and the edges of the frames stay thin. The decisive advantage comes if you want the cockpit open: a thin canopy can be cut and slid back without looking like a plastic wedge.
The canopy is cut out of the backing film with scissors leaving a generous margin, and only then sanded to final shape. A proven procedure is to lay abrasive paper on glass, hold the canopy with your fingers over a piece of sponge placed inside it and sand in circles until the outline starts to disappear. Test the fit on the fuselage as you go. It is glued with white glue or with a cement intended for clear parts that will not fog them. Before spraying the frames, polish the canopy and, if need be, dip it in gloss varnish, which fills fine scratches.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
