This accessory from the Czech maker Brengun is formed by vacuum-drawing thin clear film and is cut for a model of the MiG-29 fighter in 1:144 scale. It is not a kit or a set of cockpit parts: it is a replacement for the single most optically exposed part of a model.
Clear parts in injected plastic have an awkward proportion in small scales: the wall thickness is set by the technology, so even a small canopy looks like aquarium glass. A vacuum-formed part is an order of magnitude thinner and cleaner, and the cockpit frame on it reads as the right size. On a model the size of a finger that is a difference even a layman notices. Thin film also makes it possible to open the cockpit without the edge of the canopy looking like a curbstone.
The part is not cut out of the backing film right up to the line. First trace the outline with a fine alcohol marker, cut it out with a margin and only then sand the seating edge on abrasive paper laid on a board, in a circular motion and with frequent test fitting on the model. Sanding ends the moment the canopy is flush with the fuselage. It is glued with cement for clear parts or with thin white glue, which leaves no haze; super glue would fog the film. The frames are masked with narrow strips of masking tape or with a ready-made masking set. If the surface gets scratched during handling, a brief dip in gloss varnish helps.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as formed clear film to be cut out. Glue, masks and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
