Kit of the Soviet Polikarpov I-15bis biplane fighter in the small 1:144 scale from the Ukrainian brand Armory. It is injection-molded plastic and the manufacturer states that the box holds two models. Besides the plastic sprues there are clear parts and decals enclosed. It is a small model, which makes clean work on the interplane struts all the more important. Check the part count and the marking options on the box.
The I-15bis was a reworked version of the I-15 fighter and differed from it mainly in the upper wing: instead of the characteristic cranked shape resembling a gull wing it was given a straight wing carried above the fuselage on struts. It also received a more powerful engine and heavier machine gun armament. It was a typical representative of the time when an agile biplane with fixed landing gear was still considered an equal match for a monoplane. Aircraft of this family saw combat in the Far East and in the Winter War, and some of them were still in the front line in 1941. By then they were clearly outclassed and their role shifted to supporting ground troops.
In 1:144 scale the thickness of the parts decides everything: thin the interplane struts down and work with a small amount of glue so the delicate parts do not dissolve. Fit the upper wing only once the struts have dried and check it against itself from both sides. Apply the decals onto a gloss base and settle them into the surface with a decal softener.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
