An injection-molded plastic kit of the legendary American Grumman F-14A Tomcat carrier fighter in the small 1:144 scale from the firm Academy. Thanks to the smaller number of parts it is a fairly quick build, suitable for a shelf alongside other aircraft. The box contains plastic sprues, clear glazing and decals for the striking black and white markings of the VF-84 Jolly Rogers squadron with the skull and crossbones.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was a two-seat carrier fighter of the US Navy with a variable-geometry wing. The F-14A version carried the long-range AIM-54 Phoenix missile, along with the AIM-7 Sparrow and the AIM-9 Sidewinder, and from the 1970s it formed the backbone of the defense of carrier task forces. The VF-84 Jolly Rogers squadron was among the most iconic thanks to its conspicuous skull marking.
In 1:144 scale the parts are small, so work with a sharp knife and liquid cement for plastic. The wings can as a rule be built at various sweep angles. Finish the cockpit and the landing gear before closing the fuselage, and mask the glazing. Lay the paints on with an airbrush in thin coats and clear-coat the surface with gloss before the decals.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
