This item is a resin accessory set from the Aires brand, not an aircraft kit. It replaces the wheel bays on a model of the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet in 1:48 scale. The bays are visible from below and from the side on a model on a stand, and a plastic kit as a rule handles them with suggested relief only. A resin casting can convey the structure of the ribs, the lines and the hoses as it looks on the real aircraft.
The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is a twin-engine carrier-based multirole aircraft that grows out of the original F/A-18 Hornet but has a larger airframe, different air intakes and more powerful propulsion — a pair of General Electric F414 engines. The E version is single-seat and the F version two-seat. As a carrier-based machine it has rugged landing gear with arresting equipment, and its bays are so broken up that a detailing set really does show on them.
Always try the set dry before gluing and reckon with having to sand the contact surfaces down — with parts that close up between fuselage halves or into a wing, that is the rule. Wash the castings in warm water with detergent because of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, not with nippers. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Paint the bays before they go in: a primer, a light interior shade, a dark wash into all the recesses and fine dry-brushing of the edges. The small hydraulic lines are worth picking out by hand with a thin brush.
This is an accessory for a kit, not a stand-alone model. The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted; paints, glue and the base kit are not included in the package.
