What the set contains

A set of replacement exhausts for a model of the OV-10A Bronco aircraft in 1:32 scale. According to the name it is cut for the Kitty Hawk kit. The exhaust is one of those parts where a swap pays off: in a kit it tends to be split and shallow, so on a finished model solid material shows where an opening ought to be. A replacement part settles exactly that and saves filling a split tube.

The real subject

The OV-10 Bronco is an American observation and light attack aircraft with twin tail booms and a high-set wing, built for work low over the ground and for operating from short strips. The OV-10A version was the baseline form of the line. The area around the exhausts on these machines tends to be heavily sooted, so a model offers rewarding work with shades.

Preparation and painting tips

• cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder off
• the parts are not polystyrene and are bonded with super glue
• before painting, wash them in lukewarm water with detergent and degrease them
• try the fit dry; the opening where they seat usually needs slight adjustment
• fit the exhausts only after the surrounding area has been painted, or the shades are hard to keep apart
