Halftrack Wrecks in the IDF Part 3 is a book title, neither a kit nor an accessory. Desert Eagle Publishing has long concentrated on the armored vehicles of the Israeli armed forces, and this volume is, according to the name, the third part of a range devoted to wrecks and withdrawn vehicles.
Halftrack vehicles of American design served in Israel for an exceptionally long time and in a whole range of modifications. Some of them ended up on storage lots and on monuments, where their condition can be documented at close quarters to this day. It is just such pieces that are valuable to a modeler: they show details that cannot be photographed on vehicles in service, and at the same time they give a faithful original for weathered surfaces.
Photographic documentation of wrecks is a rewarding basis for a diorama and for practicing weathering techniques — rust, chipped paint, a shade faded after years in the sun, dusty running gear or vegetation growing up through a hull. A good photograph of a real vehicle is at the same time the best brake against overdone weathering, after which a model stops being believable.
