What the set contains

The package holds six cacti in an elongated, upward-growing shape, made for 1:16 scale. They are scenic vegetation for dioramas. Six pieces is a number you can work with: two or three plants form a natural group and the rest you place freely over the area, so that the scene does not look planted in a row.

What it is suited to

A tall cactus is the most conspicuous vertical element in a dry landscape and on a diorama it serves two purposes at once. It gives the viewer a sense of scale, because you can see immediately how big a figure or a vehicle is beside it, and at the same time it breaks up the horizontal surface of the base. In 1:16 scale the plant is large enough to carry even finer color work.

Building and painting tips

• Wash and degrease the pieces before painting, as paint will not hold on a smooth surface otherwise.
• Build the base on a muted green with a hint of gray, since a purely rich green looks alien in a desert.
• Bring out the ribs and edges with a dry brush in a lighter tone and darken the hollows instead.
• Work the bottom of the plant into the base with sand and a binder, so that it does not look as if it had been stood on the surface.
• Place the pieces in groups of varying height and rotation, as regular spacing gives away that they are a manufactured item.

Terms of supply

Six pieces of vegetation are supplied. The base, the model, figures, paints and binder are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Use cyanoacrylate glue to fix them, as it holds even on materials that cement for polystyrene does not grip.
