An injection-molded plastic kit of the Brabham BT46B Formula 1 single-seater in 1:20 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi. The model captures the version nicknamed the fan car, with which the Brabham team lined up for the 1978 Swedish Grand Prix. The package contains injection-molded plastic parts, rubber tires, waterslide decals and instructions; the car can be built with race numbers 1 and 2. The Brabham BT46B was designer Gordon Murray's answer to the dominance of rivals exploiting downforce from ground effect. At the rear it carried a large fan: officially it served for cooling, but in reality it sucked the air out from under the car and created enormous downforce that literally pinned the single-seater to the track. It was powered by a twelve-cylinder Alfa Romeo engine. In this configuration the car ran a single world championship race, the 1978 Swedish Grand Prix at Anderstorp, which Niki Lauda won commandingly. The fan car was then withdrawn from competition.
Cut the parts from the sprues and glue them with modeling cement for plastic. Treat the body and the bodywork panels with primer before painting; smooth painted surfaces show best with airbrush application and a final gloss clear coat. The color livery and the sponsor decals are essential for a faithful look, so apply them onto a gloss base. Accent the engine, the wings and the suspension with a fine wash in the panel lines.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
