A figure set from the original production of Alternity Miniatures in the generous 1:20 scale. The brand offers this scene in another scale as well, so check when choosing which one you want: 1:20 is noticeably larger and suits a standalone exhibition piece rather than an accessory for a model of equipment.
In 1:20 what merges in the smaller formats stands out: the drawing of the face, the prints and patches on the clothing, the structure of the cloth or the leather. At the same time, though, every imperfection of the surface and of the painting is better seen, so it is worth devoting more time to the preparation of the casting.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry, so that no mold release agent stays on the surface. Cut the casting blocks away with a saw and level the surfaces carefully with a file and abrasive paper, ideally wet and with protection of your breathing. Do a dry test before gluing, then glue the joints with super glue and fill the gaps. Apply the primer thinly, as a thick layer would clog the fine drawing at this scale. Paint the faces separately and while the parts are still loose, as they are easier to reach then. Use a glazed build-up of tones: a base, shadows in thin layers, highlights on the raised areas. On the clothing distinguish the materials not only by shade but also by sheen, as matte cotton next to satin leather works reliably. If the set holds more figures, unify them with a common motif of color so that they look like one group, and bring one of them out as a focal point.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
