A plastic kit of the modern Fiat 500 Abarth in 1:24 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi. It belongs to its range of road sports cars and captures the hot version of the small city Fiat as it began to be sold at the end of the first decade of this century. Thanks to the real subject the finished model is small, takes up only a little space on a shelf and works well as a counterweight to big Italian sports cars.
The Fiat 500 returned to the market in 2007 as the modern successor to the legendary cinquecento. Shortly afterwards the Abarth studio turned it into a hot version: a turbocharged gasoline engine, a firmer chassis, bigger wheels, more pronounced bumpers and side skirts, exhaust tips and the scorpion badge. The car quickly earned a reputation as a playful little sports car at home in the city as well as on back roads, and it became the basis for the whole later family of hot 500s. Watch out not to confuse it with the Abarth 595 and 695 of the 1960s, which were based on the original Fiat 500, as those are completely different cars with a different body shape.
The body of a small car is best sprayed with an airbrush over a quality filler primer, because every unevenness shows on the short hood and the steep sides. Apply thin plastic cement with a brush into the joint, so that the plastic does not dissolve on a visible surface. Let the gloss shade cure properly, overcoat it with gloss varnish, and only then apply the decals and finally seal them with a second coat of varnish. Chrome trim and accessories are better masked than painted over, as oversprayed chrome is hard to bring back.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
