The RX-78-2 Gundam is the machine with which the whole Gundam material began in 1979, and it remains its most recognizable symbol to this day. It carries white armor completed with blue, red and yellow parts, a pair of vertical projections on the head, and in the story it fights with a beam weapon and a shield. That very appearance has since appeared in countless further renderings.
It is a plastic model of a robot intended to be assembled and displayed. The RX-78-2 is issued in many different configurations that differ in the number of parts, in size and in the degree of articulation, so take the instructions enclosed with this particular package as binding.
Separate the parts with nippers a little away from the part, true the remaining lug with a sharp blade and polish it with fine sanding paper. The white areas are dominant on this machine and will mercilessly show every irregularity, so it pays to give the cleaning up more time than usual. Wash and degrease the surface before painting. Apply the white in thin coats, otherwise it will lose the crispness of the edges. Run a dark glaze along the seams between the panels and wipe the excess away.
The set suits collectors as well as modelers who want the starting machine of the whole line in a display case. The build gets by with ordinary modeling tools and with patience while cleaning up the parts.
