Mitsubishi A6M2a/b Reisen landing gear bay masks 1:48 - a crisp edge with no bleed, and if the paint does creep under, it is easy to put right.
Responsibility details are not available.
Die-cut self-adhesive masks for the landing gear bays of the early Zero versions in 1:48 scale. They cover the openings in the underside of the wing for as long as the outer color and the varnish are being sprayed, so that the inside of the bay stays in its own shade.
Even a well-applied mask does not ensure a perfect result if the paint is laid on too wet or sprayed at an angle under the edge. A bleed is recognizable right after the mask is lifted, as a narrow irregular strip reaching inward. Deal with it at once, while the paint is fresh: a cotton swab lightly moistened with the thinner for that paint will wipe the strip away without damaging the cured layer beneath it. Once the paint has cured, the cleaner route is to paint the bleed over in the shade of the bay with a fine brush and even the edge out, rather than to sand it. Prevention is simple: press the mask down all the way around, spray perpendicularly and in thin coats, and do not lay a mask on a surface with sanding dust on it.
In the early period of the war the A6M2 Reisen was the standard Japanese carrier fighter, known under the Allied name Zeke and among modelers as the Zero. The Model 11 and Model 21 forms differed mainly in the solution of the wing, with folding tips on the carrier version. The design was pursued consistently for low weight, which gave the aircraft great range and excellent agility.
