A replacement assembly for the front of the turret of a model of the American M18 tank destroyer in 1:35 scale. The set combines a turned 76 mm gun barrel with a resin mantlet over which a canvas cover for the weapon opening is drawn. It is that fabric which is the main reason modelers buy it: the casting captures the folds and the sagging that injection-molded plastic cannot manage. It is not a vehicle kit but an accessory replacing parts of the base model.
The M18 was an American tank destroyer of the Second World War, built on the idea that speed would replace armor. It had an open turret, thin armor and a radial engine, thanks to which it was among the fastest tracked vehicles of its day. It was deployed in separate tank destroyer battalions, which were to strike where the enemy appeared and disappear again. Canvas covers over the mantlet opening kept rain and dust out of the turret.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water so that mold release residue disappears from the surface, or the paint will not hold. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw and level the area, and do the sanding with respiratory protection. Resin is glued with super glue, that is, cyanoacrylate. Before fitting, check how the part seats in the turret and adjust the mating surface if needed. The canvas stands out when, after the base coat, you go over it with a dark penetrating coat and lighten the edges of the folds.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
