A mantlet with a canvas cover and a 76 mm M1A2 barrel for the M18 Hellcat 1:35 from PANZER ART: an accessory for a model, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A replacement assembly for the front of the turret of a model of the American M18 tank destroyer in 1:35 scale, this time in the version with the 76 mm M1A2 gun. The set combines a turned barrel with a resin mantlet over which a canvas cover for the weapon opening is drawn. Fabric with sagging folds is among the things that cannot be cast from injection-molded plastic, and that is exactly why the set is bought. It is not a vehicle kit but an accessory replacing parts of the base model.
The M18 was an American tank destroyer of the Second World War, built on the principle that speed would replace armor: an open turret, thin armor and a radial engine made it one of the fastest tracked vehicles of its day. The 76 mm gun went through modifications during the war, and the later M1A2 version differs from the early type among other things in a thread at the muzzle onto which a muzzle brake could be fitted. It is precisely because of this appearance that a modeler reaches for the variant he is holding.
Wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water so that mold release residue disappears from the surface. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw, level the area and do the sanding with respiratory protection. They are glued with super glue, that is, cyanoacrylate. Before fitting, dry-fit how the part seats in the turret. The canvas stands out best when, after the base coat, you let a dark penetrating coat run into the folds and then lighten the edges.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
