The CMK resin add-on set in 1:48 scale brings control surfaces for a model of the Lockheed PV-1 Ventura. The molded surfaces from the base kit are usually in one piece with the fixed part and do not allow them to be deflected; the resin castings are glued on separately, so you can set them in a neutral position or deflected, as the machine looked parked on the ramp. The fine structure of the covering and of the hinges is cast more crisply than an injection mold can manage.
The Lockheed PV-1 Ventura was a twin-engine naval patrol and bomber machine derived from a Lockheed airliner. It was powered by a pair of Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engines, thanks to which it was fast for its size. It served with the US Navy and with Allied users, mainly for patrolling over the sea, for attacks on shipping and for reconnaissance. Its control surfaces with fabric covering over a metal frame are clearly visible in photographs, and rendering them faithfully brings a model markedly to life.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water so that no mold release agent stays on them. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw, finish with a scalpel and level the mating edges with abrasive paper; sand resin wet and with respiratory protection. Cut off the original plastic surfaces carefully and guide the cut along the engraved lines, so that the remaining edge stays straight. They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Before spraying, apply a filler primer, which unifies the resin with the plastic. Choose the deflection of the surfaces sparingly and consistently, so that the model looks credible.
This is an add-on set, not an aircraft model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
