From 1971 the letters tii marked the best-performing naturally aspirated version of the two-door 02 series. Fuel was metered into the cylinders by a mechanical injection pump that sat on the side of the block and to this day is the most conspicuous element of the whole bay. Around a hundred and thirty horsepower was enough for the light car to earn a reputation as a driver's machine that few rivals of the period share with it.
The workshop offers three engine sets for this body, equal in scope, and this is the middle one by its technical content: it has neither the blower of the turbocharged version nor the simple carburetors of the oldest variant. They can be told apart only by the type designation in the name, and in two of them that differs by a single letter. Before ordering it is worth reading the designation slowly.
Engine bay sets are characteristic of this brand. While wheels and small accessories form the bulk of the range by volume, it is the engine sets that make up the middle tier by scope, where the value is measured by the number of small castings.
The injection pump deserves attention of its own. The body tends to be darker and slightly oily, while the high-pressure pipes running to the cylinders are glossy and contrast with their surroundings. A thin metallic pigment applied with a dry brush to the edges gives the casting the impression of machined metal better than a continuous coat of silver. Several short connectors run around the pump, which can be outlined in a dark shade so that they separate visually from the block. The brake fluid reservoir and the cap of the cooling system are among the small things that benefit from a drop of gloss lacquer on top, because plastic on the real car reflects light markedly.
