An injection-molded plastic model of a tanker semi-trailer in 1:24 scale from the Italian brand Italeri. Note: this is not a vehicle on its own but a semi-trailer that hitches to a tractor unit in the same scale (the tractor is sold separately). The package holds plastic parts, the chassis with its axles, rubber tires and decals; the polished cylinder of the tank is a striking feature of the model.
Heavy tanker semi-trailers are common in Europe for carrying liquid products, from milk through fuels to chemicals. The basis is a large cylindrical tank mounted on a rigid frame with a multi-axle chassis. The fittings of the tank differ according to the medium carried: baffles, discharge fittings and protective elements.
Glue the plastic parts with a thin modeling cement for plastic. The cylinder of the tank calls for careful work on the seams and a smooth surface: lay down a primer and spray thin coats with an airbrush. For the metallic sheen of the tank a good metallic paint works well, stirred thoroughly and applied last. Bring out the chassis and the axles with a wash and a fine patina.
