Injection-molded plastic kit of the Datsun Fairlady 240Z sports car in 1:24 scale from Hasegawa of Japan. This release carries the Mr. K byname and holds decals for that form; their extent is given on the packaging. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The S30 generation Fairlady Z went into production in the late 1960s and on export markets was sold under the Datsun brand as the 240Z. The coupe, with its long front hood, glazed rear pillars and flowing tail, combined an inline-six of about 2.4 liters, rear-wheel drive and independent suspension all round. It was precisely the combination of a European-flavored silhouette with Japanese reliability and a low price that made the 240Z a sales hit and fundamentally changed the way Japanese sports cars were seen. The Mr. K byname belongs to Yutaka Katayama, for many years the head of the maker's American branch, who did the most to establish the car on that market and is often called the father of the Z line.
The body of the 240Z is clean in shape, so every irregularity will show on it: sand the mold parting line on the hood and the fenders carefully and check the surface under primer. Do not degrease the chrome parts, bumpers and window frames with aggressive cleaners, so that the plated layer is not damaged. Finish the interior with its dashboard and seats before joining the body to the floor. Apply the paint in thin coats and go over it at the end with clear gloss, polishing it if you like: on a car of this era a deep gloss matters more than any weathering. Bond the glazing with an adhesive for clear parts, as ordinary cement would fog it.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
