It is not a model of a car and not a part of one, but elements of the surroundings which are added to a scene around a finished model. A garage diorama stands or falls on whether the space looks used: tools, equipment and objects put aside explain what is happening in the scene and at the same time give the viewer a comparative sense of scale.
Derive the layout from the working of a workshop. The working zone belongs against the wall, leave the middle free for the car and put the small things where they would really end up during work. Perfect order harms a scene; a slight irregularity looks natural. Before you start gluing, lay the elements out dry together with the model, look at the scene from the height of a viewer's eye and watch that the equipment does not hide the main motif. Glue only once everything is painted, dose the super glue with the tip of a toothpick on the small parts and roughen and level the contact surfaces on the larger ones.
Clean the parts up, remove the casting remains and wash them in lukewarm soapy water. Apply a thin base, and after it the base shades in two thin layers. Keep the metal surfaces under control: a thin layer of a metallic shade damped down with a wash looks more convincing than saturated gloss metal. Then comes a flowing wash into the seams, chipping of the paint on the edges and traces of work - rubbing, scratches and oil stains - applied deliberately to a very few places. Apply dust from the bottom upwards with decreasing intensity, so that the equipment shares the weathering with the floor; without that it looks as though it had been brought in from another scene. Finally unify it all with matte varnish and bring the gloss back in spots only on pools and oiled surfaces. Every layer needs to dry through thoroughly, or the previous one will dissolve under the next.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue, a base and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
