The set of decal rib tapes serves to suggest the fabric strips with which the ribs of the covering of the wings and the tail surfaces were covered on aircraft of the First World War. On the real machine these were narrow strips of cloth sewn over the rib and varnished over; on a model they are commonly painted with masking, which is lengthy and seldom comes out evenly. This set replaces them with decals, which are applied to a finished, varnished covering. It is not a model of an aircraft and not a complete decal set with markings - these are exclusively rib tapes in a green form. According to the name they are intended for every kit of the Fokker Dr.I in this scale, not for a single particular kit.
The Fokker Dr.I was a German triplane from the end of the First World War, famous for its agility and its steep rate of climb. The wings had a wooden framework with a fabric covering, and that is exactly why the ribs and the tapes covering them are markedly noticeable on them. On machines of the period a greenish covering of the fuselage and the lifting surfaces appeared, among other things, so green tapes match a number of surviving color schemes. According to the name, though, the set determines neither a particular machine nor a particular shade.
Apply the tapes only to a finished, fully dried and glossy base, as silvering edges will arise on matte varnish. Proceed one tape at a time and mark the orientation beforehand according to the ribs on the part. With three-dimensional decals the procedure differs from that for classic wet decals, so keep to the instructions in the package. Once dry, spray the whole covering over with matte or semi-matte varnish, so that the tapes merge with the surface. A triplane has six wing surfaces plus the tail, so reckon with patient work.
The package holds only decals. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it.
