About product

The JDM Domo Kun mascot 1:24, an interior accessory, Yamamoto Model Parts

This item is not a model of a car but a small figure of a mascot in 1:24 scale, intended for the cabin of a car model. Domo Kun is a well-known Japanese mascot character, a boxy brown creature with an open mouth, and in the Japanese tuning scene it turns up as a plush toy on the dashboard, in the rear window or on a door handle. It is fitted into a model as a final detail.

What the accessory is for

A furnished cabin tells a built model from a model taken out of a box. A mascot on the dashboard or in the rear window is as characteristic of the JDM style as a sports steering wheel or sports seats, and it tells the viewer at once what kind of car this is. At the same time it gives a model scale, as next to a figure one realizes the size of the cabin immediately. Yamamoto Model Parts makes these accessories for 1:24 scale directly, so they match ordinary car models in size.

Building and painting tips

The part is small, so work with tweezers over a light-colored surface. Before painting, wash it in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap, as remains of mold release agent or of uncured resin can be left on the surface and the paint would then hold badly. Cut the casting block or the print supports off with a sharp modeling scalpel and sand the surface over; protect your breathing while sanding. Spray the base on in a thin coat, paint the body of the mascot with a brush and pick the mouth and the eyes out with a sharp tip. A light dark wash brings the shape out, and a matte varnish at the end imitates the textile surface of a plush toy. It is glued with super glue.

Who the accessory is for

  • Builders of 1:24 car models in the JDM style and Japanese tuning
  • Modelers who take the interior down to the detail
  • Displayed models with the doors open or with a glazed cabin
  • For combining with a 1:24 car model, super glue and brush paints

This is an accessory, not a kit. The car model, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. It is a small figure of a mascot for an interior in 1:24 scale. You obtain the kit of the vehicle, the paints and the glue separately.

Most often on the dashboard or in the rear window, that is where it can be seen from outside. The particular placement is up to you.

No, it is supplied unpainted. We recommend washing it, spraying a base on and painting it in with a brush; a matte varnish at the end imitates the plush surface.

With super glue. Liquid cement for plastic does not hold on a part of this type.
