What the accessory is for

A diorama stands or falls with the small things that give away that someone moves about in it. A laptop set down on a workbench, on the hood of a vehicle or on a crate in a workshop does exactly that: it hints at the period and at what is going on in the scene just now. In 1:24 scale an ordinary laptop around thirty-five centimeters wide comes out at just under fifteen millimeters, so it is a rewarding detail that takes up little room and that the eye notices all the same.

Where it fits

In garage and workshop scenes with a vehicle being built, with figures in an office, in the back area of a racing team and with models of contemporary hardware, where a computer tends to be part of the equipment. The 1:24 scale corresponds to the ordinary kits of passenger cars, so the size matches them without any recalculation.

Building and painting tips

• Before painting, wash and degrease the part, or the paint will hold badly.
• Cut the surplus material away a little distance from the part with a sharp blade and sand the surface.
• To glue it into the scene, use super glue, which will join even materials that cement for polystyrene does not affect.
• Paint the body of the laptop matte and, on the contrary, finish the display with gloss clear so that the scene is mirrored in it as in glass.
• Let the keyboard be merely suggested with a dark wash; drawing the individual keys makes no sense in this scale.
