The manufacturer releases this generation in several boxings distinguished by the form and the year, so watch the exact wording of the name when choosing.
The RX-7 was introduced in 1978 as an affordable sports coupe with a twin-rotor Wankel engine at the front and drive to the rear wheels. The compact rotary unit allowed a low-set nose with pop-up headlights and a favorable weight distribution, which made the car a popular machine for racing as well as for ordinary roads. The early forms differed from the later ones in details of the bumpers, the lights and the equipment — that is exactly why the manufacturer distinguishes the individual years in the name.
On a coupe with a large rear end the interior of the car is clearly visible through the glazing, so it pays to give it time: tell the seats apart from the carpet, finish the dashboard with matte varnish and bring the instruments out with a dark wash that runs into the engraved lines. Fit the interior into the body only after the body has been painted. Build the chassis on a flat board and check that the car stands without leaning and that the track matches the fenders. The pop-up headlights on the early RX-7 are a characteristic feature of the real subject, but check their arrangement on the model dry before gluing, so that the parts sit down flat and at the same height.
