The G-6 version was the most numerous form of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter. It went into production in 1943 and received heavy MG 131 machine guns above the engine, for whose breeches the designer had to shape two prominent bulges on the engine cowling. It is by these that the machine is recognized at first glance, and among modelers a name derived from those bulges became established. The DB 605 engine powered a wide range of sub-versions, from day fighters through machines with underslung rocket launchers to night patrols. Thousands of this variant were built and they flew on almost every front. Later examples received a taller wooden vertical tail and the so-called Erla Haube, a canopy with far fewer frames than the original angular cockpit.
The film is cut into shapes matching the windscreen, the sliding part of the canopy and the rear section. The manufacturer states covering from the outside as well as the inside, so the set holds parts for both faces of the glazing.
In 1:24 the cockpit canopy is so large that you look in through clear glass and the inner face of the frame stays visible on the finished model. A frame sprayed only from the outside therefore looks empty and transparent. The inner parts are applied before the cockpit is assembled, the outer ones only once the fuselage is finished. Around the frames it is good to allow for a thin coat of primer, which reveals any bleed before the covering shade comes into play.
