About product

Toyota JPN Taxi NTP10 in 1:24 scale (Aoshima)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the modern Japanese Toyota JPN Taxi in the NTP10 version of 2017, in the livery of the Tokyo operator Kokusai Motorcars. The 1:24 scale is standard for passenger cars, and with a tall body of this kind the model turns out surprisingly substantial. The maker is the Japanese firm Aoshima, and the kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The JPN Taxi is a car Toyota designed directly for taxi service, not a converted sedan. The body is tall and short, with upright sides and sliding rear doors so that passengers can get in easily even with crutches or a wheelchair. The floor is low and the step-in height small. The powertrain is a hybrid and is adapted for running on liquefied gas, which is established practice with Japanese taxis. The car has become a typical part of the street scenery of Japanese cities.

Building and painting tips

On a car with such a large glazed area, masking the windows is what decides the result. The surest way is to cut masks from masking tape directly to the part: stick the tape onto the glass from the outside, trace the edge of the frame with a fingernail and cut the excess away with a new, really sharp scalpel so that the plastic does not get scratched. The alternative is to brush-paint the frames before the glass is fitted. Glue the glass exclusively with a cement for clear plastic or with white dispersion glue, because ordinary modeling cement will fog it. Take the mask off while the paint is only dry to the touch, not after it has fully cured, otherwise it will lift the paint with it.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of contemporary Japanese road cars
  • Anyone interested in utility and city vehicles in 1:24 scale
  • Modelers building a street diorama with Japanese settings
  • Builders who want to practice clean window masking

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. Toyota designed it directly as a taxi, with a tall body, a low floor and sliding rear doors.

It is a Japanese taxi operator whose livery the box represents. The color scheme and the extent of the decal sheet are stated on the box of the kit.

With a road car kit, clear parts are usually part of the package; the exact contents of the package are stated on the box of the kit.
