A plastic kit of the Japanese luxury coupe Toyota Soarer of the first generation in the 2800GT-EXTRA equipment level, model year 1981. The 1:24 scale is the most widespread one for road cars, so the finished model will sit alongside the other cars in a display case in size. The manufacturer is Aoshima, a Japanese brand that has long devoted itself to period domestic cars and their modifications.
Toyota introduced the Soarer at the start of the 1980s as an upper-class two-door coupe with rear-wheel drive and the classic layout of a longitudinally mounted engine at the front. The letter M in the MZ11 designation refers to an inline six-cylinder engine of 2.8 liters displacement, and the 2800GT-EXTRA version stood at the top of the range. In its day the car was a demonstration of how far Japanese engineering and interior equipment had moved, and today it is among the sought-after youngtimers.
It is a good idea to wash the body in lukewarm soapy water before painting, so that mold release residue disappears. A thin coat of filler primer follows, then the covering shade and finally a gloss clear coat. It is precisely the gloss that decides how the model looks, so it pays to paint in several thin coats and to polish the surface at the end. Glue the glazing and the chrome parts with cement for clear parts or with a minimum of super glue, because ordinary thin cement for plastic would fog them. Decals settle best onto a gloss base and a softener helps, and once they have dried it is advisable to varnish the whole body.
