Weight is an eternal theme in racing and a restraint system escapes it no more than the wheels or the exhaust do. Lightweight lines, this one among them, achieve the saving with thinner webbing, aluminum adjusters instead of steel ones and a slimmer central lock. The saving is counted in hundreds of grams, which sounds like little, but in a car built for minimum weight it counts in full.
TRS is a British brand focused on restraint systems for motorsport, and blue webbing tends to be the most common choice after black. On a model it has one practical advantage: it stands out well against a gray shell and against a dark interior, so the strap stays legible even in a photograph taken from a greater distance.
The sheet comes finished, with the color and the artwork of the webbing and with a raised surface that gives the strap real thickness. That is useful especially with the blue shade, because without a shadow along the edge a continuous area of color would look flat. The cockpit of a racing kit in 1:24 scale is usually clearly visible and a smooth seat without straps turns it into half-finished work.
Finally something on presenting a finished model. The interior shows worst of all the parts of a car in photographs, because enough light rarely gets into it. A colored strap is one of the few items that assert themselves in the gloom of a cockpit on their own, and in a photograph they prove that the work inside was not left unfinished. With a car that has opening doors or a removable roof that holds doubly true.
